Real Madrid Vs. Tottenham


Analysis – Real Madrid has somewhat overcome their last 16 curse by cruising past Lyon at the Bernabeu. When all their talents are firing, they are the hands down best team in the world, but when 1 or 2 players are having a bad game (most of the time in big games) then they are the worst most expensive team in the world. For a lot of people, Tottenham has been labeled as a long shot in winning this competition (including me) but If they can make It a goal fest against Real and put on the pressure early on, they could win it.

Players to Watch:

*Ozil will need to lead the offense and also keeps possession of the ball especially with the fast Steven Pienaar and Gareth Bale lurking against him.
*Sandro will need to replicate his performance against MIlan where he intercepted tons of passes and pressured the passers of Milan, this is necessary to stop the Madrid Offense.

EIJAN’S PREDICTION:  Agg:3-1 (REAL) *Real’s dynamic offense will be to much for Tottenham

Chelsea vs Manchester United 
Analysis—Chelsea easily passed Copenhagen but had a very bad 2nd leg performance. Their strength and speed upfront is still the best in the world, and maybe the best scoring team in the world. It would be a perfect time for Fernando Torres to open his Chelsea account against their rival Manchester United. The Red Devils squeak passed Marseille and their performance was just like another day in the office. Being the most balanced team in the tournament, they can win a game both with their defense and offense, but their main problem would be the injury to Rio Ferdinand. Ferdinand’s presence would surely missed especially against the big men of Chelsea.  This is a coin toss, as both teams are that great.

Players to Watch:

*Fernando Torres will need to be in form fast, as his scoring touch will be needed against United. He needs United’s defense to make them aware of him and provide space for Drogba to work.
*Smalling will have big shoes to fill as he fills in for the injured Rio Ferdinand. He will need to step up his game especially defending Fernando Torres and Drogba.

EIJAN’S PREDICTION: Agg:1-1 (United Wins on Away Goals Rule) *Really hard to decide, I’m giving United the hand because of their ability to step up on big games

Barcelona Vs. Shakhtar

Analysis—Barcelona never looked in trouble against Arsenal in the 2nd leg, as they controlled the whole game and shutting down the Gunners. Their possesion football might not be exciting to some, but still the most effective way to find scoring chances, frustrate the opponent and the same time shut them down defensively by not giving the ball away. Shakhtar is the underdog of the tournament, they dominated Roma in the last round with an aggregate score of 6-2. Shakhtar offense revolves around counter attacking, and they don’t mind losing in ball possession.They shocked the gunners (which has the same playing style as Barcelona) with their pace and ability to score on the break. This is the perfect matchup in styles, a team that build their offense slowly by keeping the ball and using short passes against a team that is built around defense and fast offense. On paper, This is Barcelona’s game to lose, but Shakhtar has proven again and again that their tactics and formation are giant killers.

Players To Watch:
*Adriano needs all his shot to find the back of the net because they will be far and few against Barcelona
*Busquets will be critical in stopping the attacking trio of Shakhtar. He will need to stay back and guard his back 4 especially with the wing backs attacking, his offensive ability will not be missed in the offense but his defensive ability is essential for a Catelan victory.

EIJAN’S PREDICTION:  Agg:5-3(Barcelona) *Too much for the young Ukrainian side, but at least this match will be entertaining

Inter Milan Vs. Schalke

Analysis – Inter Milan made one of the greatest comeback to win Against Bayern Munich and bring hope for Italian Serie A.  With their offensive ability and one of the best Back 4 in the world, they are favorites to win this tournment. Inter  is hoping that Diego Milito will be fit against Schalke. Schalke performance against Valencia was extra ordinarily great especially if you compare it to their abysmal league performances. They will hope that Jefferson Farfan will replicate his performance against Valencia and cause trouble to Inter Milan’s defense. Comparing them side by side, Inter Milan would be the favorite once again to win this meeting.

Players To Watch:

*Diego Milito needs to be fit and ready against Schalke to help Eto’o with the offense. His presence alone is enough to bring back Inter’s full capabilities.

*Farfan,If he can replicate his performance against Valencia, this will be one Dynamite show. He needs to step up and take control of the midfield.
