Sevilla 1 vs. Barcelona 1 (La Liga)–The One Where Barcelona Dropped Points

One of my favorite fixtures of La Liga would be Sevilla vs. Barcelona as both clubs never fails to entertain their fan with a high scoring barrage game. It was suppose to be a high scoring affair but with poor refereeing and poor finishes, it finished with an entertaining 1-1 draw. As usual, Barcelona entertained the crowd with their short passes and bursting runs, but credit to Sevilla for staying on par with the Catalan’s prolific midfield. With this result, Barcelona shrunk their lead from Real Madrid with just 5 points seperating the side.

Sevilla started the game with an (4-5-1) formation with Negredo playing the role of Lone striker. It was pretty ineffective early on, as Sevilla never found their offense, but with great defensive plays from Gary Medel, Sevilla were able to frustrate the Catalan’s offense. With the substitution of Kanoute and Perotti during the 2nd half, Sevilla found their offense and troubled the Catalan for the entire 2nd half. Readjusting and playing their typical (4-4-2) formation, Sevilla equalized with a Jesus Navas’ goal from timing great run and assist by the substitute Kanoute. Perotti troubled Barcelona with his pace, and it makes you wonder, what would have happen if both Kanoute and Perotti started for Sevilla.
Barcelona fielded their world renown (4-3-3) formation but with the injury to Pedro in 10 minutes and missed his pace the entire match. David Villa was invisible the whole match with just 1 shot on goal. Lionel Messi again was again superb, troubling the Sevilla defense with his pace and creativity but he failed to score as his shot was saved twice, hit the post and saw his free kick disallowed. Iniesta again was the heart of the offense for Barcelona as his precision passes troubled the Sevilla defense. Bojan did a great job playing for Pedro by scoring the opener and should have been awarded with a second-half penalty. Barcelona was unlucky this night as they struck the woodwork thrice, and had one of their goal disallowed.

Post Match – Barcelona was their typical dominating self, even with the injury to Pedro and off night of David Villa, they still looked as the dominating side tonight. Sevilla was rejuvenated with the substitution of Kanoute and Perrotti, and troubled the Catalan with their (4-4-2) formation, and they didn’t miss Luis Fabiano’s (Moved back to Brazil) presence tonight.
Lionel Messi is closely marked by Jesus Navas
