Manchester City 1 vs. Dynamo Kyiv 0 (2nd Leg Europa League)–The One Where Balotelli Was Just a Big Mistake

Edit Post
Manchester City is out of the competition with a disappointing score of 1-2 on aggregate. Manchester City was much better compared to their first leg showing, and they created a lot of great chances but unfortunately they missed majority of it. Even though Dynamo lost this game, the boys from Kiev was a factor in this game, as they caused problems for City’s defense but was stopped by an inspiration performance by England’s no.1, Joe Hart.
Manchester City using their (4-3-3) formation with Silva, Tevez and Balotelli in front were dangereous early on causing some trouble in Kyiv’s penalty box. Like the first leg, Balotelli was also awful in this match, as he missed a open net shot and also unintentionally blocked Silva’s shot that was goal bound. He capped off his evening by being sent of before half time with a stupid tackle. City’s defense was excelent this match as they matched Kyiv’s strikers and denied them of scoring. Kolarov scored a nice goal from a freekick but it was the only good thing that went Manchester City’s way that night. Nigel De Jong controlled the midfield well as he stopped Dynamo’s midfield singlehandedly.
Kyiv with their (4-4-2) formation were more defensive their game and played Counter Attacking offense. Ole Gusev and Shevchenko were excellent in this match as they caused havoc every time they had the ball, with excellent touches and cheeky passes. Dynamo’s defense were under par compared to their first leg performance and was lucky to escape with just 1 goal conceded.
Post Match- Dzeko brought hope to the City side when he was substitued in, and caused trouble for Kyiv. It had been a different game if he was started over Balotelli. Dynamo Kyiv was exciting to watch as Ole Gusev and Andriy Shevchenko were in a league of their own.
A Night to Forget for Mario Balotelli
