Bayern Munich 2 vs. Inter Milan 3 (2nd Leg UCL)–The One Where Eto’o destroyed Bayern Munich

Edit Post
It was close match but in the end, Inter pulled a come from behind victory with a last minute strike to tie the aggregate score and pass though the next stage via away goals rule. Both of the clubs went to the offensive and both of them had great chances. Inter dominated the match early on scoring on the 3rd minute with a nice run by Eto’o. Bayern took possesion of the game when they scored a goal via Mario Gomez. They applied the pressure constantly and found the back of the net 10 minutes after via a Thomas Muller strike. Inter went broke after the half, and that is where the defensive wall of Bayern crumbled, conceding two goals after halftime and losing the match.
Bayern fielded their usual (4-2-2-1-1) formation with the in-form Mario Gomez on top supported by Muller. Arjen Robben proved he was still a handful for Chivu as he ran circles around the Romanian. Like the first leg, his dribble moves to cut inside the defender is still the best in the world, as Chivu legs were crisscrossed the whole match. One of this move led to a powerful shot from outside the box that Julio Sergio spilled and found the feet of Gomez. It was déjà vu all over again. The 2nd goal came from a nice pass from Arjen Robben that found the streaking Muller running behind Inter’s defense. Like all season long, the main problem for Bayern was there leaky defense, as this one showed, their defenders were slow and was overpowered by the faster and stronger Inter forwards. If there were someone who stood out the worst in Bayern’s defense (don’t take me wrong, all of them played bad last night) that would be Bruno, as he was in charge in marking Eto’o. He was overpowered by the Cameroonian to set up the winner, he was shaken off and at the end of the night, Eto’o ‘s line was 1 goal with 2 assists.

Inter had their usual (4-2-1-2-1) formation with Samuel Eto’o leading the offense and Wesley Sneijder and Pandev supporting. Julio Sergio was not himself once again on an important match, as he spilled the shot of Robben that led to Bayern’s first goal. The midfield of Inter struggled to find their offensive as they were back tracking the whole match trying to defend Bayern’s fast midfield. Eto’o destroyed his marker, as he overpowered and outpaced him time and time again. He was involved with all of Inter’s goal, even though with little help from the midfield, he showed that he can create his own chances and proving that he is Inter’s best player this season. Sneijder had a hard time running the offense because he was always helping out his midfield and defenders stop Bayern’s offense but he stepped up when he was needed with a nice all-important equalizing goal and was involved in setting up the deciding goal. Pandev worked hard keeping and getting the ball, he missed an early chance to score but in the end he scored the winner with a nice strike that ran past the keeper.

Post match – Inter proved again that they can win this thing with their skills and determination. Being the only hope of Serie A, all the pressure are on them for the next stage as the whole Italy will be watching them. Bayern Munich again was haunted by their defense, as it showed that skills were not enough, as their mentality changed when Inter went for broke.
