Dynamo Kiev 2 vs. Manchester City 0 (Uefa Europa League 1st Leg)– The One Where Sheva still has the Magic Touch

In my opinion in terms of match quality, the Uefa Europa League (a.k.a. Uefa Cup) is match better than its counterpart the Champion’s league because teams are not afraid to commit mistake and the flow of the game is always fast. This is was the case with Kiev and Man City. It was a duel between a team with the money to buy the best players in the world and a team full of home grown players. And yet again, it was proven that money can’t buy victory.

Dynamo with the standard (4-4-2) formation, played a great game, by spreading the ball all over the field and with their height and speed, they were winning loose balls with ease. With the help with the midfield, the defense were solid tonight, frustrating the Man City offense with double teams and sheer muscle. Both Oleg Gusev and Andriy Shevchenko punished the young Manchester defense with their craftiness and hard work. Gusev was full of running and gave problems to Kolarov and Richards, and was responsible with the 2nd goal after Richards was caught out of position. Scheva rolled back the years and showed the world he still has his predatory instincts. It was a great performance for the ex-Milan hitman with a beautiful goal.

Man City fielded an (4-3-3) formation with Dzeko, Silva and Balotelli upfront. The English sides looked lost the whole match as they crumbled from Kiev’s pressure. The attacking trio were non existent the whole match as they were out muscled by the Dynamo defense. Both Dzeko and Balotelli were infective and looked frustrated the whole match. A late sub by Mancini, where he bought Tevez in for Balotelli, gave the Manchester side a bit of hope, but it was just a little too late as the match was already decided.

POST MATCH – Manchester City would hope to try to do a comeback at their home. Mancini hopes to start Tevez and hopes that he has a greater effect than Balotelli. If dynamo kiev were to repeat this performance in the 2nd leg, well, it looks bye bye for Manchester City.
Sheva still has it!!
