Bayer Leverkusen 2 vs. Villarreal 3 (Uefa Europa League 1st leg)–The One Where the Yellow submarines sunk Leverkusen

Edit Post
It was a barn burner last night as 5 goals were scored in this match. Nilmar again showed the world why he is the next big thing in the world of football with 2 goals to help his side beat a strong Leverkusen side. Leverkusen’s midfield performed great and Villarreal midfield played abysmal but both of them were responsible with the high scoring game. Leverkusen’s forwards never find their bearing as they were never a factor in the game.

Leverkusen fielded a (4-4-2) formation, but the pairing of Sam and Derdiyok never caused problems for the Yellow Submarine. Leverkusen’ midfield was astounding in this game as they did some strong runs and helped their defense really well. The midfield was responsible with a goal Castro and setting up Kadlec for the 2nd goal. The substitution of both Sam and Dediyok for Kießling and Jorgensen proved that they should have started in the first place as they were more effective than the players they replaced.

Villarreal played with the same formation, a (4-4-2), even though their midfield never was on par with Leverkusen but their dorwards and defense performed great and was enough for the victory. Giuseppe Rossi was doubled team through out the match, but the small Italian worked hard and was rewarded with his effort as he blew away from his defenders to equalize the game. Nilmar proved again to be an asset as he was only on for 21 minutes and just took 2 shots which resulted into 2 goals.

Post match- I expect Leverkusen to start Kießling at the 2nd leg. But I feel that it is Villarreal game to loose as they were the superior side on paper and last night.
Giuseppe Rossi scored with his 24th goal of the season

Castro beats Villarreal’s defense and scored with a stunning strike

Don’t let looks deceive you, the baby-faced Nilmar proves again he is the next big thing in Europe
