* If you don’t know what is the Cucchiaio, Totti’s signature move, it is basically a dipping lob shot.

Match Analysis:

Il Capitano ,Francesco Totti celebrating his goal with David Pizzaro and Capitan Futuro, Danielle De Rossi

This might be one of the best finish in a game the whole season. This match was important for both Roma and Udinese as this win gives Roma hope for the last Champion’s league spot as only 3 points separate them for the no.4 spot with 6 games left to play. What started to be a boring yet physical match (with 8 yellow cards for both sides), ended with one of the best last 5 minutes of a football match this season. As Udinese equalized the game at the 87th minute with an Antonio Di Natale strike and nearly took the lead at the 92nd minute by a Armero goal but was disallowed for handball,as Udinese were dominating possession in the closing minutes yet somehow the Gialorossi were able to win the game with the last strike of the match (94’ minute) courtesy of Francesco Totti and his 203 league goal.

A physical match with a total of 50 fouls for both teams and 8 yellow cards

Udinese was fielding the traditional (4-4-2) formation had trouble stringing their passes as they sorely missed the playmaking skills of Alexis Sanchez. Also add to the fact, that they felt the referee decisions were almost against them the whole game especially during the 92nd minute, where Armero’s winner was disallowed because of a clear hand ball. Antonio Di Natale had a wonderful performance, as he worked hard and only had one good chance the whole game, which he capitalized. Udinese defense had a great game as they shut down the Lupi’s prolific midfield with their physical play.

Roma played their usual (4-2-3-1) formation with Totti playing the role of a false nine, a false nine is a player who drops to midfield drawing the  center backs out of position and tries to create space for wide players to cut in, this formation was effective for Roma last season as they had an 20 game unbeaten streak just using this formation and tactic.  Totti again showed why he is a legend as he netted 2 goals, 6 goals in the last 4 games, as he confused Udinese’s defense with his passing and creativity. He set up Pizzaro with a nice 1-2 pass that led to the penalty which he gladly took and finished, using his cheeky signature penalty move, the ‘Cucchiaio’. And yet again Roma showed why they are one of the top 3 teams in Serie A by allowing another last 10 minutes goal to Udinese but luckily for them, the king of Rome was able to salvage the vital 3 points with the last strike of the game courtesy of a John Arse Risse assist.

No Totti, No Party!!

With only 3 points separating the no.4 Udinese, no.5 Lazio and No.6 Roma for the last CL spot and with only 6 games to play, this race is more exciting than the Scudetto race as every remaining game is vital for these three teams.
