The Korean Sensation
Like the first leg, this game was thrilling from end to end. Chelsea was looking for the win as they gambled with Fernando Torres starting over the lethal Didier Drogba. The game turned exciting late when Chelsea scored an equalizer and just needed one more goal to advance to the semi final, but they were caught with their pants down as Manchester United was back in the lead a minute after.
Fernando Torres again folded and haven’t justified his 50 million dollar value
Manchester United fielding their traditional (4-4-2) formation looked dangerous with the pairing of Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney on top. Chicharito again showed why he is the steal of the season with another goal in a big game, his fast acceleration and quick change of direction caused headaches for John Terry and company. His goal was a typical poacher goal from a nice ground cross by Ryan Giggs. The Welshman played his heart out by dishing out 2 assists, one to Chicharito and another one to the Korean Sensation, Park Ji-Sung. Rio Ferdinand struggled with an slight knock the whole game but a 50% Rio Ferdinand is still a top 10 defender as he helped shut down Fernando Torres and Drogba.
Chicharito proved again he is lethal in big games.
Chelsea was playing a (4-4-2) formation during the first half but changed to an (4-2-3-1) formation and proved that the later was more effective. Everyone was wondering why Carlo Ancelloti decided to start Torres over Drogba which turned to be a disaster as Fernando Torres didn’t do anything during his time on the pitch while Drogba who just played in the second half, made tons of chances using his speed and strength and to add salt to the wound he even scored a crucial goal and just plainly proved that he should have started the whole game. Defensively, Chelsea was okay but their trouble offensively is what hurting their performance the whole season, As Ancelotti had various armaments but just can’t find the right mixture to do that perfect bang. Ramires sending off was justified and correct but I applaud Chelsea’s desire to make it still a game with 1 man down.
Drogba proved he is the right choice
With a Manchester United win, It seems that Sir Alex is expecting a Schalke win later, and this can be a very interesting semi final with a David vs. Goliath Theme.
