Player Preview–Sebastian “Formica Atomica” Giovinco–Italy’s next successor to the Trequartista.

Edit Post
Full name: Sebastian Giovinco
Date of birth : January 26, 1987 (age 24)
Place of birth: Turin, Italy
Height: 1.64 m (5 ft 4 1⁄2 in)
Team: Parma (Italian Serie A)
Playing position: Attacking Midfielder/Winger
Playing Style: Techincal and Fast dribbler
Player Comparison: Marc Overmars/Pavel Nedved
The Italian national team have always known for their Trequartistas ranging from Roberto Baggio and to the world cup winning duo of Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero. But during the past world cup and up to the present, the Italian national squad have not found any successor for their Trequartista role as the new crop of players hasn’t emulated the same playing style that would fit the typical Trequartista. Enter Giovinco, I first saw Sebastian Giovinco last year with Juventus and I was impressed with his dribbling skills but was not amazed with his height and strength. Standing only at 5’4”,he looks like a child playing against the big boys and to be honest, I’m one of the many people who doubted his skills because of his short height. Fast forward this season, and I’m truly amazed on how he adapted his playing style to suit his height by doing smart runs and also adding killer passing to his arsenal. Just this past weekend, He with his team Parma destroyed Inter’s defense with his skills and speed.
Speed and Technical skills are his greatest strength
On his debut for the Azzurri this year, he really made the difference in the Azzurri’s offense by bringing life using some clever runs and also some pin point passing. He also brought hope for the Italian squad and solved Cesare Prandelli’s problem by give the much needed energy and spark at the Trequartista role.
Can easily take over a game
Maybe his greatest strength would be his dribbling skills, with his speed and mad skills he easily pass his defenders from left to right. His free kick ability is also above the average as he can easily score from 30 meters away. His playmaking skills is still needs a lot of work as he still hasn’t have the same vision and killer passing as Del Piero and Totti but with experience and hard work, there is no reason why he can’t reach their level. In my opinion, he is already one of the most technical players as he really knows how to take over a game with his skills, he reminds me of Marc Overmars with his dribbling skills as he is comfortable with both legs and also a mix of Pavel Nedved as they play with the same playmaking style.
Knows how to pass even the biggest opponent
His height is his biggest weakness and to be honest,it is the one that is affecting his transfer value but with his inspired play this season he has already drawn interests from Manchester United,Liverpool, Arsenal,Napoli, Valencia but Juventus still wants to keep him as Del Piero’s successor, the future is bright with this kid.
